David LeBlanc – Founder AARC

We are saddened to report that long time AARC member David LeBlanc, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon after a long and hard-fought battle with myelodysplasia syndrome.  David and his wife Cheryl started the NH Athletic Alliance Running Club in 1980.  Together, they ran many marathons and coached others to do the same.  David was the ultimate competitor.  He was a sub 3 hour marathoner and ran the Boston Marathon many times.  He was also an accomplished cyclist and competed in races all over New England, including the grueling Mount Washington Auto Road Race.  The first Norris Cotton 5K Road Race was run in his honor.
In 1999, David was recognized with the Union Leader Hero Award for saving a drowning co-worker.  He loved to restore old cars and in 2010, he won the Best of Show Award out of 700 cars for his ’58 Austin Healey.  He enjoyed fishing, watching the Patriots and spending time with his friends and family.

On a more personal note, David was family.  My sister is married to his son, so his loss is felt a little more deeply.  He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Cheryl; his son Lee, his wife Maureen and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily; his son Michael, and his wife Kelly and their two sons, Felix and Theo; his brother Peter; and his sisters, Emily and Elise.  Calling hours are between 4-7 pm on Monday, June 20th at Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester.  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 21st at 10 am at St. Pius Church in Manchester.
