The Manchester Summer Fun Runs program is alive, well, and beginning this Thursday, June 29, thanks to a new lead organizer, the one and only James Porter!!!
When Porter, heard the Livingston Park meets were in jeopardy, he enthusiastically “grabbed the baton” from Kelly Fox, another amazing local runner, who has kept this popular family program operating for the last several years.
“I decided to take over because of my love for the sport, and I felt the need to give back to it,” said Porter, who is the cross country and track coach at The Derryfield School. “I have always preached to my athletes the need to be good stewards of the sport and to give back to the community. It was time I did more.”
PORTER NEEDS OUR HELP!
Meets will be held June 29, July 6, July 13, and July 20. Registration opens at 5:15 p.m., with races running from 6 to 7 p.m. The distances offered alternate each week, and family and friends are encouraged to run together in a weekly relay.
The cost is $1 per event, or $2 for multiple events. The money goes to purchase ribbons and other supplies.
Anyone who knows Porter knows he is going to make these meets fun. He’s a very encouraging and understanding individual who sincerely wants to see more people running.
IF YOU CANNOT HELP AT THE MEET’S, a small monatary donation is much appreciated to help with the cost of ribbons, maybe some new timers etc.
Porter has a sheet for volunteers to help with: registration, timing, starting, coral and awards. Let him know if/when you can help!
